Each person has experienced at least once in his life this enemy of beauty: the pimple. For some, this was a minor inconvenience. Some people broke down probably the most important moment in their lives. But most people are still facing with this problem.
For those who deal with either mild or severe acne, there are treatments that can help. But be noted that acne is a disease is much more complex than it seems at first sight.
Types of treatments :
- Local action antibacterial products (gels, creams, soaps).
- Local-acting antibiotics such as tetracycline, erythromycin. Antibiotics with local action, although the same effect as the oral, are preferred.
- Oral antibiotics.
- Hormonal treatments (use estrogen and progestogen). Methods of contraception are very effective.
- Local retinoid (derived from Vitamin A) although they are effective and have a lighter, yet can cause skin irritation.
- Oral retinoids have the best chance to completely cure acne by reducing secretions of sebaceous glands.
- Phototherapy, especially with violet light.
- Photodynamic therapy.
- Laser treatment.
There are other types of treatment are not widely used, such as aloe vera, vitamin B5, heat, vitamin B3 (usually applied as a gel), and zinc.
There are many acne products. How to choose the correct treatment dermatologist?
Acne treatment must take into account its intensity or severity, and triggers posbilele complications. The approach must be adapted according to each patient. There are 8 steps to measure the severity of acne. The first step that acne is manifested by what we know as a black dot or a white filament. This type of acne is minor. On the 8th stage there is the most severe form of acne that occurs through injuries. From another point of view, several types of acne is acne inflammatory (microbial infection), acne pustular (pus profusely), acne rosacea (most severe form).
Treatment for mild acne (onset) is local and can be used in products found in pharmacies without a prescription, based on exfoliation. Such products contain peroxide or salicylic acid. Both are equally effective but salicylic acid is recommended for sensitive skins. The aim of treatment is to accelerate the process of exfoliating the skin to clean pores to prevent acne. Treatment for more severe cases of acne is long and complex.
Improvements may occur in the first two months, but by the end of the treatment, acne may worsen before they improve. This type of acne can be treated only through dermatologists. This treatment should cover a broad spectrum. To treat severe acne can be used contraceptives (for women who want a contraceptive method), treatment with antibiotics (tetracycline), or if the acne does not respond to antibiotics, an extreme measure would be taking izotretinoid (a retinoid) orally. The latter may have side effects and in this case, consult your dermatologist.
